Nicolas Strubin is a Trinity Business School ambassador currently studying on the MSc in Human Resource Management programme. Having completed his undergrad in International Relations and Law from the University of Geneva, Nicholas was looking for a Master's programme that combined comprehensive curriculum as well as networking opportunities in various industries. Here, he gives insight into his journey so far and talks about how he is preparing for his professional career.

What first drew me to me Trinity Business School was its historical legacy and its reputation as a high-quality teaching institution. It’s prime location in the international city of Dublin and ties to numerous industries offers a plethora of networking opportunities for anyone looking to start their professional career. Trinity's MSc in Human Resource Management appealed to me as it was the most comprehensive HR master’s programme I found while researching potential programmes - it covers virtually every dimension of the field.

Having completed my undergraduate degree in International Relations and Law, I also highly value the multidisciplinary aspect of this Master’s degree. Its openness to applicants from diverse academic backgrounds further enriches the experience by fostering interactions with a wide range of students. The programme is taught by both academic experts and experienced practitioners, providing a unique curriculum that combines academic research with practical insights and applications.

What has been the most valuable aspect of my time at Trinity Business School is the genuine dedication of our teachers and professors. Their availability, combined with a genuine readiness to guide and support, has been indispensable. It’s not just about passing on knowledge - it's about taking those extra steps to steer us in the right direction both academically and professionally. Additionally, the camaraderie within this cohort has been remarkable. There’s a genuine sense of unity, with everyone eager to uplift and support each other towards our shared and individual goals.

Trinity's MSc in HRM offers the perfect blend between academic research and practical application. What truly accentuates the practical side of our programme is the opportunity to visit various leading industries during the semester, as well as conducting company consultancy projects for these same industry giants. However, the school doesn’t stop there, Trinity Business School also offers a myriad of career resources, from CV and cover letter workshops to psychometric assessment guidance. I had a one-on-one session with our career advisor, Mark Heeney, who provided essential career advice and resources tailored to my post-graduate ambitions. This has given me the confidence to  tackle applications to those premier graduate programmes and internships.

By the end of this programme, I want to come out with all the tools that make a HR professional truly stand out, while also pinpointing a specific field of HR that resonates with me and that I will be able to call my own. Additionally, I hope that I will be able to leverage my background in International Relations and Law to bring uniqueness to my HR studies and my subsequent HR career. While at it, I am eager to sketch out not just the immediate next steps in my career but also the big picture, the kind of long-term goals that keep you inspired every single day.
