Tina Hasenauer (MSc International Management, Class of 2021) credits the International Consultancy project with introducing her to her future employer and progressing her career. This module is designed to pair students with a company and put their theoretical skills to the test to solve a real-life organisational issue.

After finishing my undergraduate degree, I knew that I wanted to move to an English-speaking country for my post graduate degree. I started researching the different programs and countries I could apply for – Trinity Business School quickly ended on top of my list. Trinity has a long history of academic excellence and paired with Dublin as a location, it just seemed like the obvious choice!

When I first started looking into postgraduate degrees, Trinity appealed to me because of its excellent reputation. The programme itself also had super interesting and diverse modules. I knew that I wanted to take classes such as Marketing and Cross-Cultural Management again because I really enjoyed them during my undergraduate degree, but there were also a lot of new subjects like Global Brand Management that appealed to me.

However, I think the one aspect of the MSc in International Management programme that made me chose Trinity Business School over all the other options was the International Residency Week and the International Consultancy Project because it allows you to put all that theoretical knowledge you gain to the test in practice.

When I started the course, I was hoping to gain more business knowledge, especially in areas that were new to me. My goal in starting the course was to gain new business knowledge, especially in areas that were new to me, so the Consultancy Project was to apply all the theoretical knowledge that I had picked up during my education. Cross-cultural knowledge is extremely important when working in international and cross-functional teams, so I was also hoping to make lasting connections and meet people from across the world.

As part of the degree, students work on an International Consultancy project with companies applying all the theoretical knowledge you learned in practice, to a real life problem. It so happened that the company I was doing the project for was looking for a native German speaker to join their Customer Success Team in Dublin. I applied for the position, and I've been working for the same company since! My studies played a critical role in my career by linking me with my current employer.

Looking back at my time in Trinity, I think the most valuable part of the programme were the connections you make with fellow classmates. The classes can only teach you so much in theory but working together with people from across the world coming from a multitude of disciplines teaches you valuable life skills such as cross-cultural collaboration, understanding and patience. Doing the masters under COVID also taught us all a lot about endurance, resilience, and the importance of team spirit.

You will get the chance to meet friends from across the globe, make important and meaningful connections and learn life skills such as intercultural communication, endurance, and patience. You will also learn more about all the different disciplines of business and how they work in practice. I guess my best advice to future applicants is to always keep an open mind. Network, meet new people and just embrace all the amazing things coming your way!
